COME OUT AND CAST A LINE, CATCH FISH AND WIN PRIZES!

Anchorage’s largest salmon derby, the Slam’n Salm’n King Derby, is scheduled for June 14-22 at Ship Creek. Anglers will have the opportunity to cast a line to help others, while also fishing for a chance to win exciting prizes. An awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 23 at Kings Landing.

Proceeds from this year’s derby will support Alaskan non-profit organizations.

The grand prize is valued at over $6,000 and includes a authentic Alaska gold nugget + $1,000 cash.

Local anglers and out-of-state visitors are eligible to participate in the Derby.

To participate, a derby ticket must be purchased prior to fishing. Tickets will be available at the Derby Headquarters at The Bait Shack located at 212 W. Whitney Road.

After catching a King, the angler must bring their catch to Derby Headquarters for official weigh-in.

The Derby categories are Men, Women, Military and Youth classes.

Military service members may enter two classes by purchasing two tickets; on in the military class plus one in the Men or Women’s class. Each fish caught can only be entered into one category.

In addition to the Grand Prize, awards and prizes will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each fishing class.

The 8th annual Ship Creek Youth Fishing Day coincides with the Derby. Ship Creek from the C Street bridge to the Bridge Restaurant will be a youth-only fishery on June 15th from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. This section will be only for anglers age 15 and younger.
